Developed for Gayna Whitaker:
Access Patients in Their Communities
Hawthorne Health is a community-based site network designed to support enrollment, retention, and execution.
Access changes everything.
Hawthorne Health is a pharmacy-based site network designed to support sponsors, like AstraZeneca, seeking to expand patient access through community-based clinical research across rheumatology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and dermatology studies.
Our model engages patients through trusted healthcare settings, including clinics, pharmacies, and affiliated community care locations across the United States. Centralized operational oversight and standardized workflows support protocol-compliant execution while helping reduce barriers to participation and retention.
Pharmacy-Based Site Network
Built to reach patients traditionally excluded from existing research models, Hawthorne Health brings clinical trials to the heart of communities through a nationwide network of pharmacy-based sites.
Familiar settings and convenient locations help to reduce barriers to participation while improving patient retention and study outcomes.
Proposed Network Overview
We have identified a set of community-based sites and investigators aligned to support your pipeline, selected based on:
Existing patient flow within relevant populations
Established care relationships in local communities
Geographic distribution to support enrollment coverage
Ability to support both site-based and lower-burden visit structures

Nephrology and cardio-renal investigators for outcomes research:
-
PI Highlights:
Board-certified nephrologist with experience across approximately 27 or more kidney and dialysis-focused trials, including large Phase 3 studies in CKD, ESRD, and renal outcomes. Deep specialization spanning phosphate binders, anemia management, and diabetic nephropathy supports high-quality enrollment and execution in nephrology trials.
Catchment:
Densely populated, highly diverse area (~53% minority representation), access to approximately 22,500 patients.

PI Highlights: Cardiologist with targeted cardio-renal trial experience, including landmark studies in diabetic kidney disease and renal outcomes. High-volume cardiovascular trial background combined with kidney-related endpoints supports recruitment and management of patients with overlapping cardiovascular and renal comorbidities.
Catchment:
Growing, diverse North Carolina market (~32 to 35% minority representation) with strong access to cardiometabolic patients.
-
PI Highlights:
Hands-on experience across multiple chronic kidney disease and proteinuric kidney disease studies, including interventional and observational research. Critical care and complex patient management background supports execution in the medically challenging populations common to renal trials.
Catchment:
Community-based site serving a diverse regional population, including approximately 29.5% Black or African American patients.
-
PI Highlights: Broad clinical research experience across multiple therapeutic areas, including an event-driven outcomes study incorporating chronic kidney disease and major adverse kidney event endpoints. Experience across Phase 2 and 3 trials and diverse patient populations reflects operational adaptability in complex study designs. Previously served as a Field Medical Director at AstraZeneca/MedImmune.
Catchment:Semi-rural population (~26% minority representation) with access to approximately 12,000 patients.
Cardio-Metabolic
