Prepared for submission to the 2026:
Research designed around the patient, not the other way around.
Hawthorne Health is a community-based clinical research site network embedded inside independent community pharmacies, located where traditional research has not reached. For protocols that allow it, a nationwide at-home visit network lets patients complete visits at the pharmacy, at home, or both.
Meeting patients where they are is not a feature we added.
It is who we are.
Patient satisfaction with the visit experience
Discontinued patients across all six sites
Remained enrolled across six community sites
Patient centricity starts with a simple belief…
Research should be designed around the patient, not the other way around. A trial should be convenient, easy to access, and close to home, and it should fit a person's schedule, language, and the relationships they already have with providers they trust. We built our entire operating model around that belief. Hawthorne Health is a community-based clinical research site network with sites embedded inside independent community pharmacies.
Our sites are located in places traditional research has not reached to bring clinical trials to patients who otherwise would not have access. In addition, for protocols that allow it, patients are supported by a nationwide at-home visit network, allowing them to complete visits in the home or on site in order to ease the burden of participation. Meeting patients where they are is not a feature we added. It is who we are.
A trusted invitation, in a trusted place.
Our sites operate inside independent local community pharmacies, the healthcare setting patients visit most often. Working together with each pharmacy, we identify patients whose medications suggest a study may be relevant to their care. The invitation to learn more about a clinical trial opportunity then comes from their own pharmacist, the trusted health care provider who has filled their prescriptions and answered their health questions for years. No cold calling or unfamiliar settings.
Patients learn about research in a place they already know, from someone they already trust, with evening and weekend appointments so participation can fit around work, family, and daily life.
In Practice
Bienstar Pharmacy
Lindenwold, NJ
Creating patient access where research isn't.
We select our communities intentionally, prioritizing places where patients have few or no opportunities to take part in research.
McAllen, Texas: a border town where 87% of the population is Hispanic, our site is staffed by bilingual Spanish-speaking coordinators, pharmacists, and investigators. We are serving an underserved community in a trusted location, right in their communities, with staff who understand their needs and culture in their native language.
Gadsden, Alabama: where more than 30% of residents are African American, the nearest significant trial options are over 60 miles away in Birmingham or over 100 miles away in Atlanta.
Staten Island, New York: where reaching a Manhattan research center can mean a two-plus-hour, multi-transfer commute, our site inside a community pharmacy brings clinical trials to a borough that has long been without one, right beside the largest city in the country.

Community Impact Stories
-
For a recent infant vaccine trial in Staten Island, our team visited local women's shelters and food pantries so that families with the fewest resources knew their babies could receive all required infant vaccines at no cost through study participation, at the neighborhood pharmacy down the street.
Our goal is simple: to make sure our communities have access to clinical research and the care they deserve, close to home.
-
For an ongoing COPD study, we screened a homeless person with multiple medical issues. While they failed to screen for the trial, we were able to provide them with a full medical exam and recommend them to local free medical resources to ensure follow up care and additional testing.
Our priority is caring for the people in our communities.
-
Our pharmacists are health leaders in their communities. In our Staten Island location, owner and pharmacist Dr. Mayank Parikh has led local Narcan training and distribution efforts and installed safe medication disposal in partnership with the District Attorney's office.
Welcoming patients into clinical research is a natural extension of the care he already provides.

Our patients have trusted us with their medications for years, and that trust is the foundation of everything we do. When our pharmacists can tell a patient there is a clinical trial for their condition available right here in Staten Island, in the same pharmacy where they pick up their prescriptions every month, it changes what is possible for them.
Before this, participating in research meant traveling into Manhattan: trains, a ferry, most of a day gone, often time off work. For many of our patients, that was the end of the conversation. Now they can join a trial a few minutes from home, guided by people they already know. We have watched patients gain access to treatment options they would not have pursued otherwise, and we have watched the community begin to see the pharmacy as more than a place to fill prescriptions.
Partnering with Hawthorne Health has extended what a neighborhood pharmacy can do for the people it serves.”
Patient Satisfaction
Onsite or at home, making participation easier for the patient
At Hawthorne Health, we believe a trial should disrupt a patient's daily life as little as possible. Some visits are easiest at the neighborhood pharmacy. Others are easier at a patient's own kitchen table. That's why Hawthorne seamlessly supports both. When protocols allow, our community pharmacy sites can be combined with our nationwide at-home network of GCP-trained nurses who support home study visits across all 50 states. A parent can schedule a visit after the school pick-up. An older adult patient who no longer drives can have the study come to their home. Patients can choose where their visits happen, at the pharmacy, at home, or a mix of both, all within one structure and one standard of quality oversight. The study adapts to the patient, rather than asking the patient to adapt to the study.

“I felt very comfortable with the nurse who visited. She was on time, called the day before arriving, and was very thorough. She treated me with respect in my home. I would highly recommend her and this service in the future.”
-
“Nothing to improve. Lindsey is so kind, understanding, and compassionate with my special needs daughter. Your company is blessed to have her.”
-
“Loved the in-home visit. Jonathan was very patient with my son.”
Closing Remarks
Across our growing nationwide site network, our more than 40 principal investigators help put research within reach of patients who would otherwise not have the opportunity to try potential new therapeutics for their disease state.
Every new site follows the same model: a trusted community setting, local relationships, and centralized governance, so the patient experience stays personal, consistent, community focused and patient centric as we continue to grow.
Patient centricity is not just an initiative at Hawthorne Health.
It is the reason Hawthorne exists.
